Ultra Tapalpa Gear Guide: Night & Day Race Preparation

Ultra Tapalpa’s night and daytime options need separate departure checks. A light left with the next morning’s clothing cannot help on the night route. Choose the named route, verify the current equipment table, and pack only after those two decisions are clear.

Edition and route to confirm

The official Tapalpa page lists October 30-31, 2026, in Jalisco. It presents named routes such as Rokosa, Kometa and Lakanija and has separate dates for night and daytime activities. Its route descriptions include the Valle de los Enigmas, forest sections and climbs. Use the actual route map and entry confirmation rather than identifying a route only by an old distance graphic.

Organizer information that changes the load

The equipment graphic currently displayed on the 2026 page is titled as a 2025 Tapalpa table. That does not confirm a 2026 distance-specific kit. The Ultra Trail Mexico Series has separate 2026 regulations, but a general series rule should not replace the named route’s current equipment requirement. Ask for the updated table before treating a light, a jacket or a particular fluid capacity as compulsory for that route.

Build the section-by-section packing plan

The organizer facts and LECAMO’s suggested packing actions are separated below. Suggested actions help you prepare; they do not add new race requirements.

Decision Organizer information Suggested packing action
Night entry Activities are listed for October 30 Confirm light and backup requirements for the selected route
Day entry Main daytime routes are listed for October 31 Use its own start time, map and equipment table
Current kit confirmation Displayed graphic carries a 2025 title Request the applicable 2026 table
Food and water Route time depends on climbs and terrain Plan from the named route’s confirmed aid intervals

Prepare the handoff or refill before race day

Separate the night departure kit from the next-day clothing before travel. Write the route name on both the vest checklist and any allowed bag. If you enter more than one activity, check that used fuel, empty flasks and depleted power cannot be mistaken for ready supplies. Save the updated instructions with the route map on your phone.

Test the vest with this race’s complete load

If your selected activity requires or is expected to include darkness, rehearse with the light you intend to use and the full carried load. Open the food pocket while the light is on, check bottle seals and stow the layer you would need when slowing down. This rehearsal is a packing recommendation; it is not a substitute for the final route-specific mandatory list.

ROOT5 is listed with 5L storage and two included 500ml soft flasks, giving one litre of container capacity. That describes the product configuration; it does not establish that the full race kit fits or that the carried water is sufficient. Compare your complete list with the current ROOT5 listing, then run with the filled load before choosing it for this entry.

Common preparation questions

Can I treat the pictured equipment table as the 2026 rules?

The checked graphic is titled for 2025. Confirm the applicable 2026 table with the organizer before using it as a requirement list.

Should the night and day routes share one packed bag?

Prepare separate departure checks. Some equipment can be reused after inspection, cleaning and recharging, but each entry needs its own complete load.
