Bromont Ultra Gear Guide: BU Distance & Mandatory Kit
At Bromont Ultra, choose the BU trail-running distance before copying any equipment list. The event also has MTBU mountain-bike entries, which use different gear. For the longer BU races, the published water requirement refers to water carried, so empty bottle capacity alone is not enough.

Edition and route to confirm
The official schedule places the 2026 event across October 16-18. BU160 and BU80 start on October 17, while BU55 and BU25 start on October 18; other short and relay formats have their own times. Use the schedule alongside the participant guide to plan arrival, bib pickup and the specific equipment inspection.
Organizer information that changes the load
The participant guide’s 2026 mandatory section specifies at least one litre of water for BU55, BU80 and BU160, with a waterproof windbreaker, survival blanket and other distance-specific items. BU80 and BU160 additionally list a headlamp plus replacement power or a second headlamp. BU25 and BU12 specify at least 500ml of water, but their remaining items differ. This is a selected comparison; consult the full list for your distance and any personal-condition provisions.
Build the section-by-section packing plan
The organizer facts and LECAMO’s suggested packing actions are separated below. Suggested actions help you prepare; they do not add new race requirements.
| Decision | Organizer information | Suggested packing action |
|---|---|---|
| BU80 / BU160 | At least 1L water; headlamp and backup provision | Protect lighting and keep the backup accessible |
| BU55 | At least 1L water with its own full list | Do not inherit every BU80/160 item or remove required layers |
| BU25 / BU12 | At least 500ml water; different remaining requirements | Check the exact distance heading, including pole restrictions |
| MTBU entries | Mountain-bike categories | Use the bike list only if that is your entered event |
Prepare the handoff or refill before race day
The guide gives crews specific transport rules: for BU55, BU80 and the first BU160 loop, remote support access uses shuttles rather than direct driving. It separately describes the second BU160 loop. Make the runner’s exchange package compact enough for the permitted transport and label the race and loop. Do not use a car itinerary from another loop as the first-loop plan.
Test the vest with this race’s complete load

Lay out the complete BU kit, fill the required water and add your planned food before testing vest capacity. Wear the jacket you intend to carry and repack it once used. For BU80/160, switch to backup lighting during a practice stop. A size label or one-litre pair of empty flasks does not establish that the whole filled load fits or meets the rules.
ROOT5 is listed with 5L storage and two included 500ml soft flasks, giving one litre of container capacity. That describes the product configuration; it does not establish that the full race kit fits or that the carried water is sufficient. Compare your complete list with the current ROOT5 listing, then run with the filled load before choosing it for this entry.
Common preparation questions
Is the one-litre instruction just empty container capacity?
The French 2026 BU55/80/160 lists say a minimum of one litre of water. Use that wording and confirm the organizer’s interpretation if uncertain.
Do BU and MTBU use the same checklist?
No. BU is the trail-running section and MTBU is the mountain-bike section. Use your actual entry heading.
