Running Vest Phone Holder: Choose a Pocket That Fits Your Phone
A pocket described as a phone holder can still be a poor match for your phone. The case adds bulk, the opening may be smaller than the pocket body, and a packed bottle beside it can change the space available.
Choose a running vest phone pocket by testing the complete phone and the loaded vest. Start with the item you own, rather than the screen size printed on a product page.
Measure the phone with its case
Record the phone’s height, width and thickness with its everyday case attached. Include any ring, grip or wallet that normally stays on it.
Compare those dimensions with the pocket’s usable dimensions when they are available. If the seller lists only a compatible screen size, ask about the pocket opening and usable depth. A diagonal screen measurement does not describe the whole object you need to carry.
If you use a protective pouch, measure that complete package too. Avoid a setup that only fits after removing the protection you planned to use.

Check the opening and closure
Insert the phone without forcing the pocket. Close the zipper or other intended closure fully. Notice whether a corner presses into the zipper path or whether the case catches on the opening.
Leave enough space to remove the phone deliberately. A pocket that accepts the device but makes every retrieval a struggle may be inconvenient for navigation checks.
See our trail vest packing guide for the wider packing context. Put frequently used items where you can reach them without dismantling the load.
Add the surrounding gear
Fill the adjacent bottle and pack the food you normally carry. Try the phone again. The useful test is the pocket in a running setup, rather than a pocket stretched open on an empty vest.
Walk and make normal arm movements. Check for a hard phone edge pressing into your chest or a bulky case interfering with the bottle.
If access improves when you move the phone, repeat the check in that position. Keep the rest of the load constant so you know what changed.

Plan when to use the phone
Stop in a suitable place before taking the phone out. Practise opening and closing the pocket while stationary, including with gloves if they are part of your usual kit.
Give keys a separate secure place so they do not share the phone’s screen space. Return the phone to the same pocket after each check. A consistent location makes it easier to notice when it has not been put away.
Separate retention from rain protection
A closed pocket can help retain a phone, but its closure does not establish that the pocket is waterproof. Check the current product description and your phone manufacturer’s guidance.
Our electronics protection guide covers a separate packing decision. Before choosing a LECAMO vest, confirm the current pocket layout, measure your complete phone setup and make sure its designated compartment closes comfortably.
