Sai Kung 50 Gear Guide: Water, Kit and Checkpoint Planning

The name Sai Kung 50 does not tell you which load to pack. Start with the distance on your entry, the current equipment list and the section you will cover before your next refill.

This independent LECAMO guide belongs to our Hong Kong race directory. The official source for the December edition is the organizer’s Sai Kung 50 page.

Confirm the December edition and your distance

Action Asia lists December 6, 2026 at Pak Tam Chung, with 54km, 36km, 22km and 12km formats. Some headings on that same page use 50km or 35km labels, and the longest course table totals 55.9km. Confirm your entered course against the final map and briefing rather than treating the event name as an exact measurement.

A February 2026 document belongs to a different date. Save the December instructions with your kit sheet so a search result from the earlier edition does not become your packing list.

Sai Kung 50 mandatory equipment: what the page lists

The current equipment section lists a hydration system with at least 1L capacity, running shoes and a race bib. Trail shoes with grip are recommended within the footwear entry. It separately recommends items including sun protection, practiced food and phone protection. Read the full rules and any updates on the organizer page before racing.

Two 500ml containers provide 1L capacity. That calculation does not establish how much water you need to carry on departure. Use the water planning guide with your expected section time and actual conditions.

Use the checkpoint gap to choose the water arrangement

The current longer-course tables include a 14.1km section between East Dam and Chek Keng. Treat it as a prompt to examine your expected time on that terrain and verify the final route. It is not a reason to assume the minimum container capacity will cover every runner.

Fill your chosen containers and rehearse removal, refilling and replacement with the rest of the kit packed. Front flasks let you handle separate containers; a rear reservoir changes how you reach its opening and route its hose. Our flask versus bladder comparison explains those workflows.

Build a packing table for your own entry

Item group What to write on your sheet What to test at home
Water containers Capacity and planned departure volume Filled fit and refill access
Food Supplies for the next planned section Reach with the vest closed
Clothing Current requirements plus your chosen layers Removal and repacking
Phone Protection and access location Open the pocket while wearing the vest
Bib Placement under the applicable rules Visibility with your planned layers

This table is LECAMO preparation advice. Add every item from the current official list before treating it as complete.

Check whether the full load fits ROOT5

ROOT5 is listed as a 5L pack with two included 500ml soft flasks. LECAMO confirms YKK zippers on this model. These are configuration details; they do not prove a complete race load fits or that any runner has enough carried water.

Use your actual folded garments, containers and food for the test. Close the pockets without force, reach the phone and repeat the check after removing some water. If essentials crowd the closures, compare another capacity using the complete-load fitting workflow. Review ROOT5’s current listing for the selected size and package.

Before you travel

Record your distance, source link and checked date. Verify the final course, equipment changes and refill arrangements. Pack the clothes you will wear at the start together with the loaded vest so the last check uses the actual setup.
