Hong Kong 100 Gear Guide: 2027 Checkpoints, Water and Storage

A new checkpoint position is a reason to review your packing plan. For HK100 in 2027, work from the current route rather than relying on where you refilled in another edition.

This guide focuses on the 100km race within the Hong Kong 100 weekend. It belongs to our Hong Kong race directory. Other weekend formats need their own official instructions.

Confirmed route information

The official HK100 page lists January 23, 2027. It relocates CP2 to Sai Wan Pavilion at 17km and lists CP3 at Pak Tam Au at 28km. The route description identifies CP6–CP7 as its longest and hardest stage. Food and beverage details are currently to be announced.

These are route facts, not a complete aid menu or mandatory-equipment list. Check the organizer's final runner instructions for equipment, carried water and permitted support before finalizing your load.

HK100 2027 checkpoint changes: update the early sections

The current route description puts CP1 at East Dam, 10km; relocated CP2 at Sai Wan Pavilion, 17km; and CP3 at Pak Tam Au, 28km. Subtracting those published cumulative distances gives about 7km for CP1 to CP2 and 11km for CP2 to CP3. These are distance calculations, not predicted running times.

Section Planning detail to update What remains to confirm
CP1 to relocated CP2 Use the current Sai Wan Shan climb and Pavilion location Final aid provision and your expected section time
CP2 to CP3 Plan the beach and trail section from the new checkpoint Actual departure water and practiced food
CP6 to CP7 Review the organizer’s longest, hardest-stage description Final route, supplies and conditions

Keep refill locations and permitted crew access in separate columns. A checkpoint being reachable by transport does not by itself authorize outside assistance there. Check the organizer’s final rules before arranging a handoff.

How should I choose an HK100 hydration vest?

Make the full current mandatory list first, then add your section plan. Test containers filled and all required clothing packed. Use the complete-kit capacity workflow and the printable sheet in the series hub. No named pack or container capacity alone establishes compliance for HK100.

Rewrite your section sheet using the current route

List each checkpoint from the current source. Next to it, leave space for the supplies you expect to need on departure and the official refill details once confirmed. Mark information still awaiting publication instead of filling it from memory.

Keep the source and checked date on your sheet. If a route update arrives, you will know which part to replace. A paper plan is useful only if it reflects the version you will run.

Plan food before the final menu appears

Use the food you have practiced with to build your preparation list. Keep the supplies you expect to carry for a section apart from any optional choices you may make at an aid station.

When the final menu is published, compare it with your plan rather than replacing all carried supplies with assumptions about station food. A table headed to be announced does not establish that a particular gel, hot meal or drink will be available.

Keep clothing accessible after the refill

Try the full-load arrangement with water filled, food organized and your intended layers packed. Then remove the layer you expect to use and put it on without moving emergency items into an unprotected area.

Use our packing workflow to test the sequence. The goal is to keep each item reachable at the time you need it, even after the food and water load changes.

Preparation group What to confirm or rehearse
Mandatory kit Current list and exact specifications for HK100
Section water Relevant route segment and final aid details
Food Practiced supplies; confirmed station menu when released
Lights and layers Access with the complete kit and bib on
Support Only the locations and actions the organizer permits

These are preparation categories, not an organizer-approved equipment checklist.

Check phone and light access while wearing layers

Place the phone in protective storage you can still open. If you intend to carry charging supplies, practice reconnecting them without losing small parts from an open pocket.

Use the light storage guide to rehearse changing from stored to usable lighting. The exact number and specifications of lights must come from your current race instructions.

Select the pack after the kit is known

Use the capacity guide once the complete required load is laid out. Do not assume a pack named for an ultra meets HK100 requirements.

LECAMO confirms ROOT5 has YKK zippers and includes two 500ml flasks. Their combined container capacity is 1L; that does not establish sufficiency for HK100. Read the ROOT5 configuration guide and compare your full kit and water plan before choosing.
