Rocky Raccoon 100 Gear Guide: Drop Bags & Night Kit

For Rocky Raccoon 100, pack drop bags by aid station even when two stations are physically close. Dam Nation and Gate serve different parts of the course; the organizer explicitly says runners cannot move between them to reach supplies. Your light and food plan should follow the course you are actually running.

Edition and route to confirm

Tejas Trails lists February 6, 2027, at Huntsville State Park in Texas. The 100-mile course is five 20-mile laps. The 100K description uses a two-mile opening lap followed by three 20-mile laps. The organizer describes tree roots, wooden bridges and pine-needle trails, making useful lighting and a secure packed load worth rehearsing.

Organizer information that changes the load

The event is cupless: bring your own cup or water bottle for aid-station drinks. For organizer-delivered bags, the current page gives Dam Nation and Gate as separate destinations and does not offer delivery to Nature Center. The page also identifies a linked GPX as old. Use the current marked course and final aid chart for your edition rather than treating that old file as the final route.

Build the section-by-section packing plan

The organizer facts and LECAMO’s suggested packing actions are separated below. Suggested actions help you prepare; they do not add new race requirements.

Decision Organizer information Suggested packing action
Dam Nation bag A separate station-specific bag Label the supplies for the visit you can actually make
Gate bag Near Dam Nation but a different course location Do not share one bag between the stations
Nature Center supplies No organizer delivery stated Check the allowed self-placement arrangements
Night equipment Roots and bridges on repeated laps Place the working light and backup access ahead of darkness

Prepare the handoff or refill before race day

List where each needed item will be when you need it. If lighting is left in a bag, verify you reach that permitted bag before darkness under your slower projected pace. Keep essential carried safety items with you regardless of convenience. Pack familiar nutrition in labelled portions so a later lap does not depend on remembering which unmarked pouch is still full.

Test the vest with this race’s complete load

Rehearse retrieving a bottle, closing the cap and switching your light while wearing the full vest. Use a bag at a mock aid station with the same label and ordering you intend for the race. A five-lap plan can still fail if an item sits at the wrong nearby station or if the runner’s equipment is mixed with crew supplies.

ROOT5 is listed with 5L storage and two included 500ml soft flasks, giving one litre of container capacity. That describes the product configuration; it does not establish that the full race kit fits or that the carried water is sufficient. Compare your complete list with the current ROOT5 listing, then run with the filled load before choosing it for this entry.

Common preparation questions

Can I use one drop bag for Dam Nation and Gate?

The current page says separate bags are needed and runners cannot cross between the two stations. Label one for each destination.

Does Rocky Raccoon provide cups for normal aid drinks?

Tejas Trails describes its races as cupless and asks runners to bring a cup or water bottle. Read the current event instructions for any exceptions.
