Southeast Asia Trail Races 2026-2027: 11 Events to Know

Quick answer: Southeast Asia now hosts several UTMB World Series races, and the calendar from November 2026 to September 2027 is full. The big dates: BTS100 Ultra in Indonesia (November 7-8, 2026), HOKA Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB (November 27 to December 6, 2026), the new Vietnam Highlands Trail by UTMB in Da Lat (January 8-10, 2027), Vietnam Trail Marathon (January 16, 2027), Amazean Jungle Thailand by UTMB (April 29 to May 2, 2027), Trail of the Kings at Lake Toba (June 11-13, 2027) and Malaysia Ultra-Trail by UTMB (September 4-5, 2027).

Why we are paying attention

On October 4, 2026, Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism held a trail race on Bokor Mountain, in and around Preah Monivong Bokor National Park, with 25 km, 12 km and 5 km categories and a 3 km walk. The event drew more than 2,000 Cambodian and international visitors from 26 countries, and Cambodia's Minister of Tourism, Huot Hak, presided over the race with the Governor of Kampot Province.

Most people still picture trail running as a Western sport: Chamonix, Colorado, the Alps. But the trails in Southeast Asia have always been there, and now the races are too. UTMB says more than 290,000 Asian runners hold a valid UTMB Index, and Malaysia Ultra-Trail by UTMB drew more than 2,700 runners from 63 countries in 2026, according to the New Straits Times.

A few notes on the calendar

• Chiang Mai is the region's UTMB Major. HOKA Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB, formerly Doi Inthanon Thailand by UTMB, is the Asia-Pacific Major of the UTMB World Series, with a 173 km race at the top.
• Vietnam gets its first UTMB event. Vietnam Highlands Trail by UTMB debuts in Da Lat in January 2027, the same month as the Vietnam Trail Marathon in Moc Chau, which is held during the orchid blossom season.
• BTS100 goes high. The course runs between 2,200 and 3,676 meters around Bromo, Tengger and Semeru.
• Malaysia's UTMB race draws an international field. Malaysia Ultra-Trail by UTMB in Taiping returns September 4-5, 2027.
