Lantau 50 Gear Guide: 54K, 27K & 16K Packing
Lantau 50’s current formats are 54km, 27km and 16km. Match the actual route to the container rule and aid chart before selecting the vest load. The page also describes a landslide-related alternative, so a saved older map should not settle your final route.

Edition and route to confirm
The official event page lists January 9, 2027, at Man Tung Road Park in Tung Chung. Its headline lists 54km, 27km and 16km, while some schedule and equipment wording still uses “50km” for the longest category. Use the final map and participant information to resolve the course you will run.
Organizer information that changes the load
The rules currently specify at least one litre of hydration capacity for the longest, labelled 50km category and at least 500ml for 27km and 16km. The equipment section also lists shoes, visible front bib and HKD200 or equivalent transport payment; consult the full current instructions. The page says the original longer route near CP2 may return if a landslide-affected section opens. Treat that as a possible change, not a confirmed opening.
Build the section-by-section packing plan
The organizer facts and LECAMO’s suggested packing actions are separated below. Suggested actions help you prepare; they do not add new race requirements.
| Decision | Organizer information | Suggested packing action |
|---|---|---|
| 54km headline category | Some rule wording still says 50km | Match the longest-category requirement with final instructions |
| 27km route | Published table has several serviced checkpoints | Use its own intervals and climbing profile |
| 16km route | Pak Mong is first listed aid at 12.6km | Plan the initial section’s expected time despite the shorter total distance |
| Possible route change | Page links original landslide-affected route | Use the confirmed final GPX and updated table |
Prepare the handoff or refill before race day
The 16km table is a useful reminder that shorter overall distance does not always mean an early refill. It places Pak Mong at 12.6km and then lists 3.8km to the finish. Build the opening food and water plan from that first interval, and check final changes before starting. Do not borrow the 27km first-aid distance for the 16km route.
Test the vest with this race’s complete load

Rehearse with the containers and clothing needed for your chosen category. If the confirmed route changes, update the section card and adjust the filled load before checking fit again. Keep your transport payment and phone in a protected reachable position. A route change can alter the useful packing plan even when the race name stays the same.
ROOT5 is listed with 5L storage and two included 500ml soft flasks, giving one litre of container capacity. That describes the product configuration; it does not establish that the full race kit fits or that the carried water is sufficient. Compare your complete list with the current ROOT5 listing, then run with the filled load before choosing it for this entry.
Common preparation questions
Is Lantau 50 exactly 50km in the current headline?
The checked page lists a 54km longest option. Some other wording still calls that category 50km, so use the final course details.
Can the 16km rely on an early refill?
Its current table places the first listed aid at Pak Mong, 12.6km from the start. Verify final route and service changes.
