Prepare a Finish Bag Separate From Your Race Vest
A finish bag holds the things you want after the race and are permitted to leave at the finish. It is a separate inventory from the equipment required on the course. Start with the organizer's bag-drop and collection instructions, then pack for your transport and clothing needs after finishing.
If the event does not offer a finish-bag service, arrange an appropriate alternative before relying on one. A bag labeled “finish” does not establish that staff will transport, protect or return it.
Confirm the service before packing
Find the current rules for bag size, labeling, drop-off, collection and any prohibited contents. Check where the bag goes and when you can retrieve it. Save the relevant instructions for race morning.
Do not use a past edition's arrangement as proof of the current service. If the guide leaves a practical question unanswered, ask the organizer before placing an item in the bag. Keep essential identification or collection requirements accessible as instructed.

Divide the inventory by when it is needed
| Inventory | What determines it |
|---|---|
| Course equipment | Event requirements, route and conditions |
| Finish bag | Permitted service and post-finish clothing or travel needs |
| Support-point supplies | Separate access and assistance rules |
A garment needed on course belongs with the runner even if another copy is in the finish bag. Use trail race equipment checklist to build the carried race list before deciding what can remain elsewhere. Do not reduce mandatory equipment because the finish is expected to be warm or close to your accommodation.
Plan the change of clothing
Choose the dry clothing and footwear you intend to use after finishing. Pack each item so it is recognizable and contained. Include an appropriate separate container for damp or used gear if needed, and follow the bag service's rules for all contents.
Think through the location where you will change. A private room, shared facility or outdoor collection area requires different arrangements. Check availability rather than assuming the finish venue provides showers or changing space.
Plan the journey after collection
List the things you need to reach your accommodation or transport. Avoid leaving your only usable access item in a bag that may not be immediately available. Confirm the organizer's guidance about valuables before deciding what goes into its custody.
Use after-run vest reset to organize the vest you remove after finishing: contain used items, account for equipment and follow individual care instructions. Keep damp gear separate from the clean clothing in your finish bag. Personal recovery needs or symptoms require appropriate help; a finish bag does not replace event medical support.
Rehearse the final handover
At home, place the course kit and finish items in separate areas. Close the finish bag within the permitted size and attach the required label without obscuring anything important. Check its inventory once, then leave it packed.
For a LECAMO vest setup, keep the course list beside the loaded pack so nothing required migrates into the finish bag during the final tidy-up. Write a race-morning reminder for both handovers: drop the permitted bag, keep the required equipment. At collection, inspect your items and follow the event's procedure if something is missing before beginning the journey home.
