Reset Your Running Vest After a Run

Unload the vest before deciding what needs cleaning, replacing or replenishing. A quick reset lets you see what remains in each pocket and rebuild the carry list for the next route.

Keep inspection and care separate. Emptying pockets is a useful first step, but washing methods, temperatures and drying instructions come from the exact pack and water-container makers. Do not transfer a care rule from one component to the whole system.

Empty one zone at a time

Place the vest on a suitable surface and work through the front pockets, side storage and rear compartment. Keep small items contained. Separate food, wrappers, electronics, water containers and clothing so each can receive the correct attention.

Check pockets that rarely get opened. Record which required items were used or moved during the outing. Remove waste for proper disposal rather than leaving it beside fresh supplies for the next run.

Group Reset task
Water equipment Empty and follow its care instructions
Clothing Inspect and care for each garment separately
Food Check condition and replace supplies as needed
Electronics Follow device and power instructions
Pack hardware Inspect closures, straps and visible wear

Inspect before cleaning

Look at the zips, seams, adjustment hardware and water-container connections. Photograph an unclear damaged area before taking any action. Do not attempt a repair simply to make the gear appear ready.

If a reservoir has been leaking, use the hydration bladder leak checklist to locate the wet area before placing it back into the vest. If a component does not function normally, contact the maker about the permitted next step.

Follow the individual care limits

The hydration gear cleaning guide gives you a routine for the pack and hydration equipment. Use it alongside the care instructions for each actual product. Remove only components intended to be removable and use only permitted cleaning methods.

Keep electronics out of any washing process. Dry and store equipment using its own instructions; do not assume that a dry outer pocket means everything inside has dried.

Rebuild for the next route

Start a fresh carry list using the next outing's conditions, refill access and equipment requirements. Replace used supplies and check the operation of lights or other devices before packing them.

Put frequently used items back in their practiced positions. Confirm that the phone still fits with its case and that the chosen water containers can be seated normally. A changed jacket or extra equipment may require a new arrangement.

Leave a clear ready-to-check setup

Keep any component awaiting support or replacement separate from the gear you intend to carry. A simple note such as “reservoir connection needs confirmation” is more useful than silently returning a questionable item to the pocket.

Before departure, perform the loaded fit and access check again. LECAMO's route-to-load approach applies to the reset as well: yesterday's successful packing list is a reference, while the next route determines what you need today.
