Whistler Race Gear Guide: 2027 Equipment Categories and Mountain Kit
Whistler preparation begins with your race category and the complete kit that category requires. The published equipment document is a useful starting point, while final weather and crew information still need their own checks.
This guide is part of the Canada race directory. It explains selected packing implications rather than replacing the full official list.
Confirmed dates and documents
The organizer race page lists 100K and 50K on June 26, 2027, and 25K and 10K on June 27. The festival runs June 25–27.
The equipment page links a North American document explicitly covering 2026 and 2027. It separates mandatory and recommended items by category and allows weather kits to be required. The crew page says the 2027 crew guide will be available closer to the event; the linked 2026 guide is background, not final permission for 2027.
Selected requirements that change the load
The linked 2026/2027 equipment document lists these differences:
| Category | Selected mandatory items affecting packing |
|---|---|
| 100K | 1L minimum water supply; one working light with spare batteries; hooded jacket |
| 50K | 1L minimum water supply; light and jacket appear as recommendations |
| 20K category, including 25K | 0.5L minimum water supply; cup, blanket and whistle |
| 10K | 0.5L minimum water supply; cup and phone |
This is a selected summary, not the complete list. Read all specifications and category instructions. The document's hot-weather kit, if activated, includes a 2L minimum water supply. Confirm any event-specific changes before racing.
Give required and recommended items separate marks

On your preparation sheet, mark each item with its status from the document. Include recommended items you choose for your expected conditions, but do not confuse their status with required kit.
If a weather kit is activated, add its items to the full-load check. Do not wait until a last-minute announcement to find out whether the clothing and extra water fit your intended pack.
Pack the clothing you might need to retrieve
Try the actual hooded jacket or extra layer in its packed form. Put it into protective storage where needed and check whether you can retrieve it without removing emergency items.
Practice wearing a layer over the packed vest and accessing your phone or drinking container. Use the rain storage checks for pocket separation and protection. A vest itself should not be assumed waterproof.
Keep refill access usable at the larger load
Fill your intended containers and repeat the access test after adding weather-kit items. A refill method that works with an almost empty compartment may become awkward once clothing and spare supplies are inside.
Use our water-container comparison to work through the opening, refill and repacking routine. Minimum listed water is a rule threshold, not a universal personal hydration plan.
Leave the crew plan open until current instructions arrive
Prepare a list of supplies you might use later, but assign them to a crew or bag location only when the organizer permits it for your race. Do not build a 2027 handoff around an older map.
Before departure, read the final crew instructions, recheck equipment and weather-kit notices, then use the capacity guide with the complete load. Choose the configuration you can carry and use, not just the smallest advertised volume.
